Your Legacy, Their Future

To commemorate our 35th year, the Berkeley Public Schools Fund has established a Legacy Fund. In our 35 years, the need for your support has never waned and we don’t expect that it ever will. The Legacy Fund will ensure that we can sustain the valuable support we provide to Berkeley schools predictably and reliably for the long term.  Your planned gift in the form of a bequest or other designated gift will gain value while it’s held for future needs.  You can be confident that your gift will provide a legacy for children, for public education, and for your community.

We are pleased to announce the following donors who are founding members of the Legacy Fund:

Planned giving is an opportunity to create your legacy and to provide tax savings for your family.  Here are a few ways you can support the Legacy Fund:

  • A gift in your will.  Naming the Schools Fund in your will by designating a percentage of your estate allows you to ensure proportional gifts to family members and other loved ones. Designations can be modified at any time if necessary.
  • Retirement plan assets.  Because retirement plan assets can be heavily taxed when left to family, you can leverage all of those savings for a charitable purpose by leaving these assets to the Schools Fund through beneficiary designations.
  • Life Insurance.  Life insurance is a simple way to make a big impact on the Schools Fund. You can leave all or a portion of your life insurance policy to the Schools Fund.
  • Charitable gift annuity.  Charitable gift annuities are another gift option. Contact us to learn more about this giving option.

If you have questions about planned giving, please contact Valerie Kratzer at (510) 644-6244.

Matching Gifts

Many employers offer a Matching Gifts Program that can double or even triple your personal gift to the Berkeley Public Schools Fund. Please check with your Human Resources Department for details.

If you have questions about matching gifts, please contact us.

Gifts of Stock

Gifts of stock or other appreciated property offer two-fold tax savings: Donors pay no capital gains on increased value of the appreciated property, and they receive an income tax deduction for the full market value at the time of the gift. Transferring securities is easy. Just give your broker the following information:

BROKERAGE: Charles Schwab & Co.
ACCOUNT NAME: Berkeley Public Schools Fund
CODE: 40

Please notify us if you are making a stock gift. This ensures that we can acknowledge your gift and send you a tax receipt.

Thank you for your support!
