Berkeley Technology Academy (BTA) is the alternative high school campus allowing students to complete credits at an accelerated pace to accommodate family, work, and life challenges. The campus has a family-like atmosphere where “everybody knows you”. Please take a minute to visit the BTA website to learn more.

Berkeley High
This main high school campus of over 3,000 students boasts several small schools or academies with subject-area or job field specializations. Typical volunteer needs at Berkeley High may include: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Algebra, Geometry, IMP (applied math), English & Composition, Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, and English Learners (ESL) in all subject areas–in addition to the special programs listed below.

After School Tutoring helps students complete homework, study for exams, or work on special projects Monday-Thursday from 3:30pm-6pm in the BHS College and Career Center. Many students have limited support at home so on-campus homework help and computer access is essential. Help students of all backgrounds and abilities not only achieve success at Berkeley High but also compete with students at top notch schools and universities.

bhsbwBHS BRIDGE program supports 9th-12th students struggling with academics or life challenges beginning the summer before high school and continuing through graduation. Take a few minutes to watch a video about the Bridge program featuring staff and students in the first year of the program – use the password 2020vision. SAT/ACT tutors are also needed to help 12th grade BRIDGE students prep for these important tests.

Special Education volunteers can provide valuable help to students facing a variety of challenges ranging from physical impairments to learning disabilities. Volunteers work in both traditional and designated classrooms, assisting students with academics, socializing, and specially tailored activities. Positive role modeling and helping young adults feel “normal” are key in this volunteer role. No experience necessary; all you need is patience and an interest in learning to better support all learners.

Berkeley Adult School

The Adult School typically needs support during the week days for GED preparation classes, English Learners, and students with limited vision or hearing in all subject areas. Multilingual volunteers are encouraged to volunteer to support our global, immigrant population. Please inquire at the Adult School if you wish to connect with a specific program. For a complete listing of courses and instructors, please visit the Berkeley Adult School website.
