SSV Food Security Team

School Support volunteers deliver groceries to schools and families as part of the food security partnership project between BUSD, the Schools Fund and Berkeley Food Network.

What do School Site Grocery Delivery Volunteers do?

  • School Site Grocery Delivery Volunteers deliver healthy groceries from the Berkeley Food Network to BUSD campuses during the school day, where they are made available to families and community members
  • Volunteers may commit to on-going 2x/month delivery to a site, or sign up for a one-time substitute delivery run

What do Grocery Home Delivery Volunteers do?

  • Grocery Home Delivery Volunteers deliver Berkeley Food Network groceries to 2-4 families’ homes
  • Volunteers may commit to on-going weekly or bi-weekly delivery, or sign up for a one-time substitute delivery run

What’s Required?

  • All grocery delivery runs require a vehicle.  All volunteer drivers are required to be age 18+, and have a valid drivers license, clean driving record, and an insured vehicle in good condition
  • School Site Volunteers: ability to load and unload 25-75 small grocery bags
  • Home Delivery Volunteers: ability to load and unload up to 8 medium sized boxes of groceries
