Fourth graders at Malcolm X went to Old Town Sacramento in order for “the legacy of struggle and triumph to create this amazing state (indigenous displacement, mission and rancho systems, Mexican/Chicano identity, geography and the development of cities, railroads built by the Chinese, gold rush, statehood, Japanese internment camps, economic development, and government structure)” to come alive for students.
