The Schools Fund is delighted to welcome Anand Kalra as our Director of Finance and Operations. Anand brings over 20 years of experience in the public sector, having worked with nonprofit organizations in a variety of settings.
Since getting his masters in Library & Information Science at the University of Michigan, Anand has found a home for his skills in operations and finance, using his expertise to manage and create efficient systems.
Early on in his career, Anand worked as a paraprofessional at a Title I elementary school, witnessing first hand how important an infrastructure of volunteer support, programs, and educator grants is to the creation of a supportive environment for students and staff. Anand says,
“Choosing to work in an education related field allows me to think long term about the impact that I’m able to have. It’s an investment in students and teachers as they are now and as they grow.”
At the Schools Fund, Anand is already at work engaging in that investment into Berkeley’s Public Schools.
“I look forward to maintaining and improving our finance and operations systems so that they are humane, people-centered, and strong enough to support the needs of our staff, grantees, and fiscally sponsored projects.”
Outside of work, Anand finds joy in music. He co-wrote a docu-musical about author Octavia Butler, Octavia of Earth, and plays the piano and trombone! We’re glad to have him on our team!
